Product Manager by trade. Builder by habit.

About

I'm a Product Manager. My entire tech career — 12+ years — was spent on one multi-tenant SaaS data platform: FastField, where customers configure mobile forms, capture data (often offline), sync it to our infrastructure, route it through a rules engine, and land it in downstream systems. I was one of the first 4-5 people on the FastField team and stayed through startup, profitability, and acquisition. I joined as a support engineer in 2014 and grew through nearly every seat — support, support management, product development, IT project management, scrum master / release manager — and finally Product Manager at Quickbase after the 2023 acquisition. Along the way I helped grow FastField from $0 to $20M+ ARR and from ~20 to ~7,500 active customers, took an active role in FastField's SOC 2, HIPAA, and GDPR compliance work (fielding due-diligence questionnaires, helping uphold standards day-to-day, supporting reaudits with evidence collection), and introduced AI tooling (Claude) into our development lifecycle. FastField was a true product-led-growth (PLG) product, and it succeeded because we treated customer obsession as a discipline — listened, built what they actually needed, and let the rest follow. That's the way I think about product, and it's served me well. I'm also an AI-native PM: I use Claude daily to ship working software — this site, a multi-tenant SaaS, native macOS/iOS apps, and more — because the best way to understand software is to ship it yourself. Currently looking for my next role.

    Product Manager

    Quickbase (FastField)

    • Joined Quickbase through its acquisition of FastField — continuing on the same mobile forms platform I'd been part of for over a decade. FastField runs as a successful product line under Quickbase today.
    • Own a product area on the FastField mobile forms platform; partner with engineering, design, and customer success to take features from discovery through release.
    • Drive the roadmap end-to-end: writing requirements, prioritizing the backlog, running sprints, and aligning stakeholders on outcomes over output.
    • Continue Scrum Master and Release Manager responsibilities for the team — running 2-week sprints, coordinating QA and rollout, and shipping clean builds on a predictable cadence.
    • Use Azure, Power BI, and Application Insights to validate launches with real usage data and feed insights back into the roadmap.

    IT Project Manager

    FastField (Merge Mobile, Inc.)

    • FastField — a multi-tenant SaaS data platform for mobile data capture — was the flagship product of Merge Mobile, Inc., later acquired by Quickbase in 2023. The product and brand are still going strong today.
    • Shipped across every layer of the platform: customers configure mobile forms, capture data (often offline), sync it back to FastField's infrastructure, route it through the Global Workflow rules engine, and land it in downstream systems via integrations (Salesforce, SQL Server, Power BI, S3, SharePoint, OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive, Webhooks, Quickbase).
    • Joined the FastField team early — one of the first 4-5 people there. Was part of taking the company from startup through profitability and ultimately to acquisition by Quickbase.
    • Helped grow FastField from $0 to $20M+ ARR — and from ~20 customers to ~7,500 active customers (each with anywhere from one to many users) — over a decade-plus on the team.
    • Joined as a Technical Support Engineer and grew through every seat on the same product — Customer Support Manager, Product Development Manager, IT Project Manager, and finally Product Manager / Scrum Master / Release Manager.
    • Built and led FastField's custom forms service — a paid offering where our team built complex forms on behalf of customers who preferred white-glove delivery. Hired and managed the build team, set the process, and turned it into a real revenue stream that doubled as a deep customer-listening channel.
    • Partnered with engineering to scale and harden FastField's transactional backend for Submissions and Global Workflow — drove the move from synchronous Azure QueueWatcher services to an async architecture on Azure Functions (queue → elastic workers, retry logic, structured logging and alerting) so throughput and concurrent transaction capacity could grow with the customer base.
    • Took an active role in FastField's SOC 2, HIPAA, and GDPR compliance — fielded due-diligence and security questionnaires from prospects and customers, helped uphold standards inside product and engineering processes, and supported recurring reaudits by gathering and curating evidence of compliance.
    • Introduced AI tooling (Claude / Anthropic) into FastField's development lifecycle — for product specs, code generation, QA, and release work — and helped the team build an AI-native engineering practice.
    • Took on Scrum Master and Release Manager responsibilities from the start of my Project Management work and carried them through the rest of my time on the product — 2-week sprint cadence, 8+ years of agile delivery focused on getting value into customers' hands quickly, no excuses.
    • Played a significant role in the Quickbase acquisition — supported due diligence, fielded discovery questions from the acquiring team, and walked them through FastField's architecture, product surface, and customer base for a smooth post-close ramp.

Assistant Manager — District Training Specialist

    Panera Bread

    • Joined as an associate during the post-2008 recession after the construction company I'd been with went through layoffs. Worked my way up through Shift Supervisor and Assistant Manager to District Training Specialist supporting 30+ cafés.
    • Owned training and certification across the district — kept training materials current, trained the trainers, and was one of the few cafés that maintained 100% updated certifications year over year.
    • Managed food cost, ordering, inventory, scheduling, and labor — the operational fundamentals that translated directly into running release cadences and process work later in tech.
    • Where I learned that leadership is mostly about helping people exceed what they thought they were capable of.

    IT — Intelligence Agent

    Best Buy

    • Diagnosed and repaired hardware and software issues across a wide range of consumer devices — laptops, desktops, peripherals, and mobile.
    • Walked customers through technical issues in plain English; built the customer-facing communication skills that have served every role since.

    IT Technician

    Erickson-Hall Construction Company

    • Supported the IT operations of a mid-size construction firm: hardware setup, network installation, troubleshooting, and end-user support.
    • First professional IT role — where the foundation was laid for a decade-plus career in software and product.

Customer-led product, customer-led growth

FastField was a true product-led-growth (PLG) product. We didn't out-market the field — we won by obsessing over customers, listening hard, and shipping what they actually needed. The custom forms service, the integrations roadmap, the Global Workflow rules engine, the platform's hardening and scale work — all of it traces back to one principle: take care of the customer, and the rest follows. That's still how I think about product.

Global Workflow

FastField's post-submission rules engine: customers define conditional logic that routes form data to where it needs to go — write a row to SQL, fire a webhook, email a technician on failure, push to a downstream integration — all triggered by what's in the submission. The connective tissue between data capture and action.

Scaling & hardening Submissions and Workflow

Partnered with engineering to evolve FastField's processing pipeline from synchronous Azure QueueWatcher services to an asynchronous, queue-based architecture on Azure Functions — write to a queue, fan out to elastic workers that scale near-infinitely with load. Built around retry logic, structured logging, and alerting in the Azure stack, with raw artifacts on S3.

Sustained reliability and headroom through ~350× customer growth (~20 → ~7,500 customers) without breaking the platform.

AI in the development lifecycle

Introduced AI tooling (Claude / Anthropic) into FastField's development lifecycle — for product specs, code generation, QA, and release work — and helped the team build an AI-native engineering practice. Continue to apply the same workflow to ship my own production-grade software (this site, a transcription app, multi-tenant SaaS, and more).

Faster turnaround on specs, prototypes, and reviews; an AI-fluent team.

Meal Train

A real meal-train running for a brother in my men's group while his wife goes through chemo. Six chemo Fridays, six men, one Friday each. Two-mode privacy (token-gated cookie unlocks the private view; public view shows a status-only preview), Postgres-backed sign-up, server actions, .ics calendar invites with built-in reminders, and a deep-link mechanic for asking a specific man to take a specific date.
